The Legacy

"The third Sunday in February in the year 1891, between the hours of two and three o'clock P.M. I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior and was cleansed from sin through the atoning merit of the precious blood of Christ.
Noah Melvin Haga
Feb 1891

These words , penned by a grandfather that none of us would ever know are a part of the Legacy handed down to us tonight. The prayers of godly men and women from early in our family's history weave their way silently into the lives of future descendents. The quiet prayer of Noah Melvin Haga stretched across the years, down through time, and unlocked the hearts of many of his descendants. Tonight, the heritage continues, gradually passing from generation to generation, with the hand of God infusing life through the answered prayers of the righteous. We are told in the Bible that the prayers of the righteous availed much in the lives of their descendents, for the Lord pours out his love and mercy to the third and fourth generation of those who keep his commandments.

No man can ever know how far his prayers and the impact of his life will reach. In the infinite provision of God's wisdom, the prayers of the righteous always come full circle, though none but God who inspires them, will ever know the full stories of their impact. We can never tell what methods God will use, nor when the fulfillment of prayers long silent will come, but be assured , God's purposes are always accomplished.

You are a part of a legacy that is moving into the future. And as it does, those of your generation and those who will be grafted into it, are endowed with a life which is given strength through the prayers and obedience of those who have come before. The blessings of God follow generational lines. so also do the consequences of wrongdoing and ungodly choices. The question that you must consider is: "Where will my allegiance be given?" As you daily make decisions, the future of the Haga legacy is determined.

You have grown and are growing up among the twentieth-century mentality that decisions are based on the present--the now. Yet every life is the result of a series of choices and crossroads--not only yours, but those of your ancestors for generations behind you. You each hold a key to the future. It was true in the past when your parents/grandparents decided to start their life together in Kingsport and it is true in the present as you make choices. You are standing at the crossroads of your own personal histories, and the decisions you are making are setting into motion values and attitudes that affect not only your own development as men and women made in the image of God, but the choices and decisions that will face our descendants for generations to come.

Noah Melvin Haga had 14 children, As of this writing June 26,2001, Tom, Lottie and SAM are the only three still living.
